Canon: Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
Name: Not going to tell you
Age: Literally old as the hills
Dislikes Hates: His enemies (some of which include inanimate objects), Englishmen, magicians, English magicians
Likes: plotting the downfall of his enemies, dancing, Stephen Black, pretty humans, magicians who flatter him by seeking his help, dressing and acting like an Englishman of slightly before his time period

Notes: His magic comes from himself and the natural world around him. To him everything is alive and inanimate objects count as intelligent living things with motives and desires. They're just slower than normal.

He's able to make (most) people not see him or to see him as something he's not. He does require some kind of natural material for most magic though. (Unfortunately air and sound can count. Unless you don't want them to.) That means plant materials, stone, animal products. Salt and iron seems to be an exception and so is any material or being he's currently quarreling with (rowan, briars etc.)

His magic can be pretty easily deflected with intentional precautions (or unintentional if you want to do that.) Salt, iron, rowan berries or any other thing that blocks magic will work.

Refined materials (most metals, plastics) are difficult to impossible for him to work with but they don't actively stop him, except for iron.

Personality: This guy is paranoid and assumes people he doesn't like are out to get him. It works the other way around as well. If he likes you he's not very difficult to fool. He does not let go of grudges ever.

The Gentleman rarely hides his feelings. He can't outright lie: at least not if asked about something three times. He's not incapable of deception, but if he does pull off a trick he tends to crow about how clever it was almost immediately afterwards.

His worldview is very simple: anyone he finds pleasing and who does what he wants is good, anyone who gets in his way is bad. He really couldn't imagine thinking any other way. Empathy is not something he really gets.

Like most of his kind he doesn't bore easily. Maybe it's his age, but he'd be perfectly content to dance every night, the same dances with the same music, forever. He's not terribly creative about some things. Maybe that's why he emulates the human beings in his world that he claims to despise.

World Notes:In his world the Fae are not divided neatly into Seelie and Unseelie, but he'd fall closer to Unseelie. Especially since ancient bones are his idea of home décor.

There are no real rulers of the Fae, or if there are they are largely hands-off. The closest thing to a ruler is the Raven King, a human magician who grew up in Faerie.
